Most fun I've had in a game all year.

The shortness of the DLC campaigns.

RELEASE DATE(S): November 15, 2011

My only regret with Saints Row the Third was that I didn’t play it sooner.  The game plays much like the “Grand Theft Auto” series.  An open world to do basically whatever you want.  The difference with Saints Row The Third is that you’ll laugh your ass off while doing horrible things.

You play as the leader of the third street saints, your city has been taken over by a rival gang and you aim to take it back.  In order to do that you’ll need to complete flash points and side quests to earn experience points.  As you earn experiences points new abilities and items will become unlocked.

Game play itself is done in third person.  I personally used the mouse and keyboard when on foot and the game controller when in a vehicle.  While completing some of the main story missions you’ll be given a dialogue choice that will effect how you complete that mission, and the outcome of the mission.

The game will not win any awards for it’s graphics but when the game isn’t making you laugh your ass off,  it does a good job of utilizing it’s sound track to make key story quests feel truly epic.  The video below is a perfect example.

The only low point was the shortness of the DLC campaigns.  I was able to complete the “gangsta’s in space” DLC in less than 30 minutes.  I wouldn’t recommend picking up any of the DLC unless it’s on a 90% off sale.  Overall Saints Row the Third was the most fun I’ve had in a game all year.   It doesn’t take itself seriously, it simply entertains you.  I can’t wait for Saint’s the fourth.
